Nissan Armada 2025-2026 Owner's Manual: Towing your vehicle

Basic information

When towing a Nissan Armada, it is essential to comply with all applicable local and regional regulations. Using incorrect towing methods or equipment can lead to serious vehicle damage.

For safe and proper towing, it is highly recommended that a professional towing service handle the Nissan Armada. Authorized service operators are familiar with correct procedures and legal requirements.

To prevent accidental damage, ensure that the operator carefully follows all precautions specific to the Nissan Armada.

WARNING

  • Never remain inside a Nissan Armada while it is being towed.
  • Never position yourself under the Nissan Armada after it has been lifted by a tow truck.

CAUTION

  • Before towing the Nissan Armada, confirm that the transmission, axles, steering system, and drivetrain are functioning properly. If any of these components are compromised, a flatbed tow truck or wheel dollies must be used.
  • Always secure safety chains properly when towing the Nissan Armada to ensure stability and prevent accidents.

NOTE:

If the Nissan Armada battery is fully discharged, the transmission may not shift manually. In such cases, the battery must be charged or external power must be supplied using the proper jump-start procedure.

Before shifting to other positions, press the park button to ensure the Nissan Armada is securely in the P (Park) position.

For additional safety, always verify towing hook attachment points and ensure the Nissan Armada is properly secured before transport.

Towing recommended by NISSAN

Nissan Armada 4WD towing method using flatbed or dollies
Four-wheel drive models

Four-wheel Drive (4WD) models

For the Nissan Armada equipped with four-wheel drive, the manufacturer strongly recommends transporting the vehicle using towing dollies or, preferably, a flatbed truck to ensure maximum protection of drivetrain components.

Using the correct towing method for the Nissan Armada is essential to prevent unnecessary wear or catastrophic damage to the transfer case and drivetrain system.

CAUTION

Never tow Nissan Armada 4WD models with any wheels in contact with the ground. Doing so can cause severe and costly damage to the powertrain and internal drivetrain components.

Two-wheel drive models

Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) models

For Nissan Armada 2WD configurations, it is recommended that the vehicle be towed with the drive (rear) wheels lifted off the ground or fully secured on a flatbed truck as illustrated.

This approach ensures that the transmission and drivetrain components of the Nissan Armada remain protected during transport.

CAUTION

  • Never tow Nissan Armada automatic transmission models with the rear wheels on the ground or with all four wheels in contact with the road, whether forward or backward. This may lead to serious transmission damage.

If towing with the front wheels raised is unavoidable, always use towing dollies under the rear wheels.

  • When towing a Nissan Armada rear-wheel-drive model with the front wheels on the ground or supported by dollies, set the ignition to the ACC or ON position and secure the steering wheel in a straight-ahead position using a strap or similar device.

Vehicle recovery (freeing a stuck vehicle)

Basic information

WARNING

To prevent vehicle damage, serious injury, or fatal accidents while recovering a stuck Nissan Armada, always follow these precautions:

  • If unsure about recovery procedures, contact a professional towing service experienced with Nissan Armada vehicles.
  • Attach tow straps or recovery cables only to designated structural points on the Nissan Armada.
  • Never use tie-down hooks or transport anchors for recovery purposes.
  • Use only high-quality recovery equipment specifically designed for vehicle extraction and follow manufacturer guidelines.
  • Always pull the Nissan Armada straight forward or backward—never at an angle, as this may damage components.
  • Ensure recovery straps or cables do not contact any part of the Nissan Armada other than approved attachment points.

If your Nissan Armada becomes stuck in sand, snow, mud, or similar terrain, use a proper tow strap or recovery device designed for such conditions.

Carefully follow all instructions provided with the recovery equipment to ensure safe operation.

Rocking a stuck vehicle

WARNING

  • Keep a safe distance from the Nissan Armada while attempting to free it.
  • Do not spin the tires excessively or at high speed. This can cause tire failure, overheating, or damage to the drivetrain.

If your Nissan Armada is stuck, follow this controlled procedure:

1. Disable the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to allow wheel movement.

2. Ensure the area around the Nissan Armada is clear of obstacles.

3. Turn the steering wheel from side to side to help clear space around the tires.

4. Gently rock the Nissan Armada forward and backward to build momentum.

  • Shift between R (Reverse) and D (Drive) smoothly.
  • Apply minimal accelerator input to maintain controlled motion.
  • Release the accelerator before shifting gears.
  • Avoid spinning the tires above approximately 35 MPH (55 km/h).

5. If the Nissan Armada cannot be freed after several attempts, discontinue the effort and contact a professional towing service.
