Nissan Armada 2025-2026 Owner's Manual: Cold weather driving

Freeing a frozen door lock

To avoid door lock freezing in cold conditions, it is recommended to apply a suitable deicer into the keyhole of your Nissan Armada before temperatures drop significantly.

If the lock on your Nissan Armada becomes frozen, gently warm the key before inserting it into the lock cylinder, or alternatively use the Intelligent Key system to unlock the vehicle without mechanical contact.

Anti-freeze

During winter months, especially when temperatures are expected to fall below 32°F (0°C), ensure that the coolant mixture in your Nissan Armada provides adequate antifreeze protection.

Proper antifreeze levels are essential to prevent freezing, overheating, and long-term engine damage.

Battery

Extreme cold can significantly reduce battery efficiency in the Nissan Armada. If the battery is not fully charged, the electrolyte may freeze, potentially causing irreversible damage.

To ensure reliable starting performance, the Nissan Armada battery should be inspected regularly and maintained at an optimal charge level.

Draining of coolant water

If the Nissan Armada will be parked outdoors without sufficient antifreeze protection, it is necessary to drain the cooling system, including the engine block, to prevent freezing damage.

Before operating the vehicle again, always refill the system with the correct coolant mixture.

Tire equipment

Basic information

Standard summer tires on the Nissan Armada are optimized for dry road performance and may lose effectiveness in snowy or icy environments.

For winter driving, it is strongly recommended to equip your Nissan Armada with MUD & SNOW or ALL-SEASON tires on all four wheels to ensure improved traction and stability.

When installing snow tires, make sure they are identical in size, load rating, construction type, and tread pattern across all wheels of the Nissan Armada.

For severe winter conditions, always install winter tires on all four wheels to maintain balanced handling and braking performance.

Studded tires may be used to improve traction on icy roads; however, their use may be restricted in certain regions. Always verify local regulations before installing studded tires on your Nissan Armada.

Be aware that studded tires may offer reduced performance on dry or wet pavement compared to non-studded winter tires.

Tire chains may also be used for additional traction when conditions require.

For Four-wheel Drive (4WD) models

On Nissan Armada 4WD models, it is essential that all tires match in size, brand, construction, and tread design to ensure proper operation of the drivetrain and avoid potential damage.

Special winter equipment

For enhanced safety and preparedness, it is advisable to carry the following items in your Nissan Armada during winter travel:

  • An ice scraper and brush to remove frost and snow from windows and wipers.
  • A sturdy board to provide stable support for the jack on snow or soft ground.
  • A shovel to help free the Nissan Armada if it becomes stuck in snow.
  • Additional windshield washer fluid suitable for freezing temperatures.

Driving on snow or ice

WARNING

  • Driving the Nissan Armada on wet ice or freezing rain conditions is extremely hazardous due to significantly reduced traction.

Avoid driving under such conditions whenever possible, or proceed only after roads have been treated.

  • Operate the Nissan Armada smoothly and cautiously. Sudden acceleration, braking, or gear changes may cause loss of traction.
  • Increase stopping distances significantly when driving on slippery surfaces.
  • Maintain a greater following distance to allow more reaction time.
  • Be alert for hidden icy patches, especially in shaded areas. Brake before reaching icy surfaces and avoid sudden steering inputs while on ice.

Smooth and controlled driving is essential for safety.

  • Do not use cruise control in the Nissan Armada on slippery roads, as it may reduce driver control.
  • Accumulated snow around the vehicle can block exhaust gases. Always clear snow from the exhaust area to prevent dangerous gas buildup.

Engine block heater

Basic information

The engine block heater in the Nissan Armada is designed to improve cold-weather starting performance by warming the engine coolant before startup.

Use the engine block heater when temperatures drop below 20°F (−7°C) to ensure smoother starts and reduced engine wear.

To use the engine block heater

1. Turn off the Nissan Armada engine.

2. Open the hood and carefully locate and unwrap the engine block heater cord.

3. Connect the heater cord to a grounded 3-wire, 3-pronged extension cord.

4. Plug the extension cord into a properly grounded 110-volt AC outlet equipped with a Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI).

5. Allow the Nissan Armada engine block heater to operate for approximately 2–4 hours, depending on ambient temperature, to sufficiently warm the engine.

Using a timer is recommended for efficient operation and energy savings.

6. Before starting the engine, disconnect and securely store the cord to prevent contact with moving components.

WARNING

  • Never use the Nissan Armada engine block heater with an ungrounded outlet or adapter, as this may result in severe electrical shock.
  • Always disconnect and properly store the cord before starting the engine to prevent damage and injury.
  • Use only heavy-duty extension cords rated for at least 10A and ensure they are connected to a grounded GFI-protected outlet to avoid fire hazards or electrical risks.
