Nissan Armada 2025-2026 Owner's Manual: Flat towing your vehicle

Flat towing

Flat towing—also referred to as dinghy towing or “4-down” towing—means towing your Nissan Armada with all four wheels in contact with the ground.

This method is commonly used when a vehicle is towed behind a motorhome or recreational vehicle. However, it is critical to understand that not all configurations of the Nissan Armada are designed for this type of towing.

CAUTION

  • Failure to follow the correct towing procedures for your Nissan Armada can result in severe and costly transmission damage.
  • When towing your Nissan Armada, always tow the vehicle forward—never backward—to prevent drivetrain damage.
  • DO NOT flat tow any Nissan Armada equipped with an automatic transmission. Towing with all four wheels on the ground will cause internal transmission damage due to insufficient lubrication.
  • DO NOT tow any Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) Nissan Armada with any wheels on the ground, as this can result in serious damage to the transfer case and drivetrain components.

Automatic Transmission

Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) models

Four-wheel drive Nissan Armada models must never be towed with any wheels in contact with the ground. Always use proper transport equipment such as a flatbed truck.

Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) models

For two-wheel drive Nissan Armada models equipped with an automatic transmission, towing requires the use of a suitable vehicle dolly.

The dolly must support the drive wheels of the vehicle to prevent transmission damage. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when using towing equipment with your Nissan Armada.
