The Idling Stop System in the Nissan Armada is designed to enhance fuel efficiency, reduce exhaust emissions, and minimize unnecessary engine noise during short stops such as traffic lights or congestion.
- When the Nissan Armada comes to a complete stop, the system automatically shuts off the engine to conserve fuel.
- As soon as the driver releases the brake pedal to resume driving, the engine restarts instantly and seamlessly.
WARNING
In the Nissan Armada, the engine may automatically restart if the vehicle begins to move at approximately 1 MPH (2 km/h) or more (such as on a downhill slope) while the Idling Stop System is active. Always keep the brake pedal firmly depressed to prevent unintended vehicle movement and potential accidents.
CAUTION
- At the end of your trip, always turn off the engine and switch the ignition to the OFF position in the Nissan Armada. Lock the vehicle as usual. Failure to properly shut down the system may result in battery discharge due to active electrical components.
- Before opening the hood or performing any maintenance on the Nissan Armada,
ensure the ignition is in the OFF position.
This precaution is essential to prevent unexpected engine restart, which could cause serious injury.
NOTE:
The Nissan Armada Idling Stop System will not activate under certain conditions, including but not limited to:
- When the engine is idling after startup without the vehicle being driven.
- When engine coolant temperature is below optimal operating level.
- When the battery charge or temperature is insufficient.
- When the Nissan Armada is in motion.
- When the hood is open or the engine is started with the hood open.
- When the driver’s seat belt is not fastened or the driver’s door is open.
- When the steering wheel is being actively turned.
- When 4L mode is selected or off-road drive modes such as TOW, SAND, ROCK, or MUD/RUT are active.
- When the Idling Stop indicator is blinking.
- When defroster systems or high HVAC loads are active.
- When cabin temperature is outside optimal ranges unless ECO air conditioning settings are enabled.
- When electrical power demand is high or at high altitudes.
- When the accelerator is pressed or the transmission is not in D (Drive).
- When the brake pedal is not firmly applied or the vehicle is stopped on a steep incline.
NOTE:
The Nissan Armada Idling Stop System may also remain inactive if the Intelligent Key is not detected inside the vehicle when doors are opened or closed.
NOTE:
Under certain conditions, the engine may not restart immediately after releasing the brake pedal while the Idling Stop System is active. This can occur when:
- The automatic brake hold system is engaged.
- The hood is open.
- The ProPILOT Assist system is active.
NOTE:
There may be a delay before the Nissan Armada Idling Stop System activates under the following circumstances:
- When the battery is weak or recently reconnected.
- When ambient temperatures are extremely low or high.
- After battery replacement or prolonged disconnection.
NOTE:
When the Idling Stop indicator light is illuminated, the Nissan Armada engine may automatically restart under certain conditions, including:
- The driver’s seat belt is unfastened or the door is opened.
- Battery voltage drops due to electrical demand.
- The vehicle begins moving above approximately 1 MPH (2 km/h).
- Defroster systems are activated.
- Cabin temperature moves outside optimal ranges.
- More than approximately 3 minutes have passed since engine shutdown.
- The accelerator pedal is pressed.
- The steering wheel is turned (temporary increase in steering effort may be felt, which is normal).
- Battery capacity becomes low or electrical load increases.
- The transmission is shifted out of D (Drive).
- The Idling Stop OFF switch is pressed.
- 4WD low range or off-road modes are activated.
- ProPILOT Assist system initiates vehicle movement.
NOTE:
The Nissan Armada Idling Stop System may not function properly if the Intelligent Key is not inside the vehicle when doors are operated.
NOTE:
In some situations, the engine will not restart automatically. In such cases, manual restart using the ignition switch is required:
- When the hood is open.
Use the Nissan Armada Idling Stop System for short stops such as traffic lights. For longer stops, it is recommended to turn off the engine completely.
When the engine is stopped by the Idling Stop System, heating, cooling, and dehumidifying functions may be temporarily reduced or disabled. If maintaining cabin comfort is important, turn off the system using the Idling Stop OFF switch.
Retrograde movement control function
This function in the Nissan Armada helps minimize backward movement when transitioning from the brake pedal to the accelerator on an incline while the Idling Stop System is active. It enhances driver confidence and control when starting uphill.
