Basic information
Your Nissan Armada is equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDR), a system designed to capture critical vehicle data during specific crash or near-crash situations.
These events may include airbag deployment or impact with road obstacles. The primary function of the EDR is to help analyze how various systems in the Nissan Armada performed during such incidents.
The EDR typically records data for a short duration—usually 30 seconds or less—and may include:
- Operational status of key vehicle systems;
- Seat belt usage by driver and passengers;
- Driver input such as acceleration and braking;
- Vehicle speed at the time of the event;
- Audio is not recorded.
These data points assist in understanding crash dynamics and improving safety system performance in the Nissan Armada.
NOTE: The EDR records data only during significant events. It does not collect information during normal driving conditions, and it does not store personal identifiers such as name, age, or gender.
However, external entities such as law enforcement may combine EDR data with other information gathered during accident investigations.
Accessing EDR data requires specialized equipment and physical access to the Nissan Armada or its recording unit.
Data retrieval is permitted only with the consent of the vehicle owner or lessee, or when required by applicable law.
Additional data recording
If your Nissan Armada is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems such as ProPILOT Assist, additional data recording capabilities may also be present.
These systems are designed to capture supplemental information during certain nontrivial crash or near-crash situations to enhance understanding of system behavior and improve safety technologies.
For ProPILOT Assist and ProPILOT Assist 1.1
- Driver inputs such as acceleration, braking, and steering actions;
- Detection of vehicles ahead and lane markings;
- Vehicle positioning and distance to other objects;
- Status and performance of ProPILOT Assist and collision avoidance systems;
- Diagnostic information related to system malfunctions;
- External camera images captured by the front sensing camera (recorded only during airbag deployment or AEB activation).
For ProPILOT Assist 2.1
- Driver behavior including accelerator, brake, and steering inputs;
- Monitoring of driver attention, including face direction and eye movement;
- Performance data of ProPILOT Assist 2.1 and related safety systems;
- Detection of surrounding vehicles, lane markers, and road structure;
- Vehicle data such as speed and position (via GNSS);
- External camera images from the front sensing system (recorded during specific safety system activations).
The ProPILOT Assist system in the Nissan Armada does not record interior cabin audio, conversations, or internal images.
Accessing supplemental recorded data requires specialized equipment and appropriate authorization.
This data will only be accessed with the consent of the Nissan Armada owner or lessee, or when legally required.
If downloaded, NISSAN and authorized partners may use the anonymized data to enhance vehicle safety and system performance.
NISSAN and its authorized partners will not disclose recorded data to third parties except in the following cases:
- With the explicit consent of the vehicle owner or lessee;
- In response to legal requests such as court orders or law enforcement inquiries;
- For research purposes after the data has been anonymized and is no longer linked to a specific Nissan Armada or owner.
